Deck The Halls
Whether you’re entertaining the whole extended family, or just a few close friends, there is no doubt that the holidays add an extra amount of stress to your home. From preparing dinner to sharing bathrooms, it can get a little crowded, overwhelming, and scrambled if you’re not prepared.
As HVAC and plumbing technicians, we’re always looking for ways to improve our homes, and our customer’s homes! This holiday season, make your kitchen and bathroom more efficient and ready for guests than ever before with some of our favorite upgrades.
Extra Supplies
One of the simplest ways to prepare your home for the holidays is to stock up on the necessities. In your kitchen, this could mean paper towels, snacks, all the ingredients for Christmas dinner, and maybe even extra plates and silverware!
When you’re a guest at someone’s home, it goes a long way when the host attempts to make the bathroom a place for everyone. Make sure you have extra:
- Toilet paper.
- Shampoo and soap.
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste.
- Towels.
- Feminine products.
- Face wash and wipes.
Going the extra mile will make your guests feel comfortable and welcome in your home.
Appliances and Fixtures
A more costly, yet especially effective upgrade for the holidays is new appliances and fixtures. If only Santa could deliver them personally!
Dishwasher
You are bound to go through many more dishes this holiday season, so make sure you’re prepared. If your old dishwasher is on its last legs, installing a new one right before the holidays will ensure you have sparkly clean dishes ready for turkey and pie.
Garbage Disposal
A garbage disposal is another tool that will make your life easier this season. Simply rinse leftover scraps down the drain and grind them up into bits. A garbage disposal helps prevent clogs and keeps your drains clear. Just don’t use them incorrectly by flushing any of these items down it:
- Animal bones
- Stringy vegetables
- Potato peels
- Large amounts of food
- Oil and grease
Showerheads and Faucets
Leaky faucets are a burden you might put up with for months at a time, but you’re only allowing for the chance of a bigger problem to arise. Avoid a holiday plumbing emergency and repair or replace your leaky faucet.
If you’re sick of low pressure showers, now is the time for a fresh start. A new showerhead will make you and your guests more comfortable and full of holiday cheer.
Bonus Tip: Encourage members of your family to take shorter showers and to wait at least 15 minutes between showers to make the hot water last longer.
Water Heater
With the whole family in town, you’re going to be doing a lot more dishes, laundry, and especially showering. Give everyone the gift of a guaranteed hot shower and kick your old, damaged water heater to the curb. New water heaters are more efficient and tankless water heaters can supply hot water on demand.
Repairs
The last thing you want over the holidays is a plumbing emergency. Plumbing issues that are left without repair for periods of time will only develop and turn into larger and more costly problems. Don’t put yourself through the stress of finding an emergency plumber and schedule your repairs ahead of the holidays!
