Common Coil Problems

Great Company. Even Better People.

The coils in your HVAC system stay out of your mind if they work well. Coil problems, however, affect how well your AC is able to cool because they’re responsible for the heat exchange that cools your interior air. If your coils suffer from one of three problems, it’s time to have a technician out to your Bluffton, South Carolina, home for HVAC maintenance.

Frozen Coils

Coils freeze when the heat exchange process gets interrupted. Sometimes, that’s because your coil is low on refrigerant. If the coil is leaking refrigerant, then you need to have a Dyess Air & Plumbing technician come to repair it immediately. Do not let a refrigerant leak go unchecked.

Coils also freeze if they don’t get enough air passing over them. Usually, another part of the HVAC system causes this problem. Broken fans or extremely dirty air filters will impede proper air flow.

Dirty Coils

When your coils are covered in dirt, they also can’t perform their job the way they should. The coils need to be clean so the air passing over them gets properly cold. If not, the air won’t cool down enough and the HVAC system will stay on longer trying to cool your home. Plus, your HVAC system will blow all that dirty air through your ducts and into your house.

Condensation on Coils

When temperatures change quickly, as happens with the air passing over your coils, sometimes condensation forms. Condensation by itself isn’t a problem. The drain pan is there to collect the condensation and remove it from your HVAC system. But if the drain gets clogged, that condensation has nowhere to go, and it leaks into your HVAC system or your walls instead. It can cause mold and mildew to grow on the coils if the condensation has nowhere to grow.

Our Dyess Air & Plumbing technicians will clean your coils and address any damage that might be causing problems like refrigerant leaks. Call us today at (843) 242-0855.
