The drain pan is there to collect the condensation and remove it from your HVAC system. But if the drain gets clogged, that condensation has nowhere to go, and it leaks into your HVAC system or your walls instead. It can cause mold and mildew to grow on the coils if the condensation has nowhere to grow.
