The incorporation of Rincon dates to 1927, but the area’s early settlement began in the mid-1750s. The arrival of the railroad led to more extensive development in the community as a line traversing the Carolinas passed through the town and led to nearby Savannah. Telegraph communications were available in the community by approximately 1895. Additionally, the development of roads between small towns allowed Rincon to become an active spot for the shipment of goods and for travel.

Nearby Port Wentworth on the Savannah River provided work for Rincon residents during World War I. Pavement and electric lines in the 1930s were part of modernization efforts, but growth was slow until after World War II. The town was reincorporated in 1954.
